When I asked Abi to write about her boudoir shoot experience with me, she quickly responded with a “YES!”. When I first read this, it brought me to tears. Abi’s boudoir journey has been one of the most memorable ones. Here is her story, written by Abi herself.
Ever met someone who made you feel instantly like “home”? That was Taylor.
From the moment I found her instagram page, I knew I’d found the “one”. No, not THAT one, although I feel like looking for a boudoir photographer is almost as difficult as online dating these days.
When I found Wild Roses, I knew I’d discovered an artist. Someone who could help me bring out the inner confidence, that inner spark.
Taylor was so incredibly kind and gracious on our call, it felt like we were old friends. We talked about why I wanted to do a session, and I explained to her that while I feel INCREDIBLY powerful and sexy in the bedroom, I have only just recently learned to own that power.
It’s a shared story for many of us, I believe – when I was 13 I began battling severe body dysmorphia and began experimenting with eating disorders. To be honest – I don’t think I’ll ever be “free” of the ghost of the eating disorder. But – as I shared with Taylor, on that first call, I for the first time in my life have confidence OUTSIDE that matches what I feel in the bedroom.
Call it hitting my “midlife/millennial life crisis” or “quarantine-rediscovery” but I decided at some point in 2021/2022 that I just didn’t give a f*ck what anyone thought about what I looked like. I decided that my body was damn sexy. Hell, this body has made a KID!
If there’s one person that can go tit for tat, pun intended, with me on organization – it’s Taylor. I didn’t need to worry about a THING when it came to details of the shoot.
Once we figured out the when, she helped me with figuring out what to wear with weekly emails about the shoot. Everything from suggestions about where to shop, reminders about shoes, ideas for outfits, special props, and of course a very important reminder about EATING something and drinking your WATER. (Don’t worry – if you miss the 12 emails about that – she’ll probably bring you a bottle “just in case”.)
Taylor greeted me IMMEDIATELY! If you think she’s a ray of sunshine in her Facebook videos, you need to meet her in person! It’s that and then some + this gentle, calming aura at the same time.
I followed her up the stairs to the location of the shoot, and there were quite a few of them, I was so excited but that was when the nerves started to creep in. It was all pretty much excitement up to that moment, but I think that was the point that it hit me, “hey, excuse me ma’am, you’re doing this.”
My hair & makeup artist was unbelievably comforting. She was bubbly, but not in that like annoying way. She was able to share her own boudoir story with me, while she did my hair and I began feeling even more comfortable.
By the time Taylor was done setting everything up I was back to excitement outweighing the nerves. I handed my bag of outfits over and we started going through them together. She even had a few tricks in her own bag (literally) to add to the mix.
Before we got started taking pictures Taylor and I sat down, one on one and went over some additional details and reminders of what to expect. She literally GUIDED me through the entire experience. At so many points, she would actually mirror the pose and what she wanted me to do. The best part? At any point, if I was uncomfortable I could stop. And there were some moments I was, I don’t mean with Taylor – I mean my BODY. I’ve had a kid y’all, not to mention two back surgeries! Some of these poses can take some work, but the outcome is SO worth it.
I left my session that day feeling incredibly powerful. I looked damn sexy and no one was going stop me from accomplishing anything. I’ve carried that attitude with me every day since.
If you’ve even had an INKLING you want to do a boudoir shoot, seen other’s pictures and thought damn I wish I could, YOU CAN. I believe in you. You got this! Be wild!
